We are building a community center for the future!

In 2017, through a bequest, SCCO purchased a piece of land, on the outskirts of Andong. After years of preparation, the time has finally come: SCCO is going to realize its own community center in Andong. Currently, the daily SCCO activities made possible by DARA Europe take place in an outdated and unsafe rental building with limited space. We are looking for a new location that can further develop the community and reduces dependence on external support. Over the past year, we have worked hard to design the multi-purpose building, which will provide flexible spaces for existing and new programs. Thanks to the support of Wilde Ganzen, MOOV Logistics and Stichting Scholenproject Cambodja Rotterdam, the financing of the first phase of the building is complete. After a careful selection, the contractor was chosen, and this month the signatures were signed. A milestone! In 2024, the community center will be built in two phases.

Long-term support for addressing poverty

Sreng and Tirza met in Andong in 2010 and since then Sreng has been committed to the welfare of the people in Andong. Together with DARA Europe, he is committed to a better future for children who grow up under difficult circumstances – and often in great poverty. Stronger together through self-help groups and parent meetings

DARA Europe focuses on education and support in the most vulnerable neighborhoods in Andong. Everything is aimed at making families independent and resilient, including through coaching. Poutheary works as a social worker at SCCO. She plays a crucial role in organizing self-help groups for youth and meetings for adults in the community.

A thank you to all visitors, and especially to L. van Eekeren who handed over a check of€ 1,150.00 on behalf of “‘De IJsselrijders”. It was a great event with nice proceeds for DARA Europe.
