DARA Europe provides structural support to children in Andong, Cambodia. In some families we have been involved for years. With wonderful visible results. For example, thanks to our support, Srey Roth followed a study that lays the foundation for a bright future.
Srey Roth graduated in pharmacy from the International University in Phnom Penh in 2023. She is particularly interested in pharmacology. Her plan is to start her own company after her studies. It is a dream that DARA Europe is proud to help make possible.
Tirza Voss, founder of DARA Europe and initiator of local NGO Stellar Child Care Organization (SCCO), met Srey Roth while volunteering in Cambodia in 2015. SCCO’s coaching and financial support allowed Srey Roth to successfully complete her final years of high school and then take steps toward the future she dreamed about. SCCO also granted her a scholarship to study pharmacy.
“We are witnessing up close how Srey Roth is growing personally and professionally,” says Tirza. “She obtained her English certificate from the Australian Centre for Education in Cambodia, and worked on weekends as a teacher for SCCO. With her talents and study career, she is an inspiring example for the children and youth in Andong.”
DARA Europe is also closely involved with Srey Roth’s family. Srey Roth’s sister is now a first-year accountancy student in Phnom Penh. Her little brother expects to finish high school in 2024.
The Khmer Rouge’s reign of terror in the 1970s still leaves traces in modern-day Cambodia. A large proportion of doctors and other medics were killed during the devastating war. As a result, there are still insufficient health care personnel.
DARA Europe works with local NGOs to provide accessible care so that families in Andong get the help and support they need. Tirza: “By supporting talents like Srey Roth, we create a positive perspective for the people in Andong as well as for the future of Cambodia.”
