Meet Sivorn, education manager at SCCO
We are proud to introduce you to the newest driving force behind the education programs of our partner organization Stellar Child Care Organization (SCCO) in Cambodia. Sivorn started in 2023 in her role as education manager at SCCO, a position supported by DARA Europe and created to meet the growing demand for educational activities in Andong. She is committed to the professionalization of teachers and the further development of SCCO’s education program and teaching methodologies.
Lesson offerings that fit the need
Sivorn coordinates kindergarten level 2 and 3 classes, tutoring for Grade 1 and 2 (similar to grade 3 and 4 in the Netherlands), computer courses and English classes. Each program has great significance and supports various educational needs within the community.
“For groups 1 and 2, SCCO offers intensive Khmer and math classes to accelerate reading, writing, and math skills,” says Sivorn. She also emphasizes the importance of mastering these basic skills early as motivation for students to avoid dropping out early.
She continued: “English classes are important for students who otherwise do not have access to private English education. “SCCO strives to provide them with basic English skills, important for a better future.”
Preschool classes are currently available for 4- and 5-year-olds in both mornings and afternoons. But there were more enrollments than spots this year. So the overwhelming demand from the community calls for further expansion. If space and budget allow, Sivorn hopes to not only open additional classes for 4- and 5-year-olds, but also introduce a Kindergarten Level 1 for 3-year-olds, to fulfill demand from Andong.
A constructive approach to success
Sivorn is clear in its goal – to nurture outstanding students with good behavior. Recognizing the unique challenges children face in Andong, she focuses not only on classroom dynamics, but also on building strong parent-child relationships. “We support parents in understanding effective guidance for their children. A positive relationship and good morale are essential to ensure the success of our students,” Sivorn said. By encouraging parents to become aware of their role and providing them with the right tools, SCCO aims to create a supportive environment for students’ positive development at home and at school.
