The past few months have been all about connection, both in and between Cambodia and the Netherlands. We share in this newsletter the inspiring stories of the young leaders Sokchea and Chornai, the unforgettable journey of social worker Sokun to the Netherlands and a special interview with a loyal donor.

News from Cambodia
Every Sunday morning, SCCO hosts a weekend class where children from Andong come together to learn, play, dream and just be kids. What makes this class extra special? It is supervised by two young people from the community itself: Sokchea and Chornai. They know better than anyone else what these children need and give back with love.

News from the Netherlands
Sokun’s unforgettable trip
In September, social worker Sokun visited the Netherlands for the Youth conference in Amsterdam and a DARA Europe team meeting, among other things. It was the first time in DARA Europe’s history that an SCCO team member came over from Cambodia, providing a unique opportunity for personal growth and knowledge exchange.
“It was special to meet everyone,” Sokun said. “I saw and experienced how the DARA Europe team works together, discusses, gathers ideas and shows commitment to support SCCO. Even when things are difficult, they remain positive and active.”

Team meeting, live in The Hague
During Sokun’s visit, we had a productive DARA Europe team meeting. Sokun shared all updates and progress of SCCO. Together we discussed the progress of all our working groups and made plans for the coming year. In addition to our team meeting online every quarter, it was valuable to meet again.
To fulfill our ambitions, we are still looking for reinforcements, especially for our marketing and communications team and for general support for projects and events. Are you interested or want to have a conversation to see what you can do for us?

Back to School: ready for the new school year
The new school year started in the Netherlands at the end of August, while in Cambodia we are preparing for the start in November. Thanks in part to your support, we can continue this important work! Did you also contribute to our campaign? Thank you!
Donations can still be made, of course.

Donor Tonny speaking
We sat down with regular donor Tonny. She shares in our latest blog why she has supported our mission for many years.
“You know where the money is going and that it’s reliable. Tirza as the initiator, her family members and the team of volunteers behind DARA Europe are fully behind it. And you feel that. That is why I wholeheartedly support this.”
Her story is a reminder that giving is not just about money, but about hope, commitment and wanting to make a difference. With each other.

Review & agenda
Boeskoolmarkt
The sale of DARA Europe at the Boeskoolmarkt in Ter Apel at the end of September was a success. We were able to make several customers happy with our unique, colorful products from Cambodia as well as apple compote from our own garden. Are you also interested?
