For more than a decade, Sreng has been active for the welfare of the people of Andong. Together with DARA Europe, he works for a better future for children growing up under difficult circumstances. <\/strong><\/p> \n \n

“We can always count on Sreng and we can really rely on him to make progress. He has a keen eye for improvements,” says Tirza Voss, founder of DARA Europe. The Dutch foundation supports the work of the NGO Stellar Child Care Organization (SCCO) in Cambodia, <\/p> \n \n

Sreng and Tirza met in 2010 in Andong, a high-poverty suburb of Phnom Penh. They shared a mission: to help children build a good future. Tirza: “Initially, we started working from our personal drive. For example, we provided English classes and milk and fruit for the children in the neighborhood. In 2012, we started a temporary shelter for children<\/a> who could not live at home because of unsafe and unhealthy family situations. Since then, the help to Andong has been structural.” <\/p> \n \n

“I support SCCO’s team in Cambodia, and I maintain contacts with our international partner organizations,” Sreng says of his daily work now. “This allows us to respond quickly to new questions and developments, and we always find the right solutions for the people who need help. Everything revolves around customization, based on the needs and wishes of the families.” <\/p> \n \n

For the children in Andong, a good school, a nice place to play and a safe home are not a given. Thanks to the efforts of DARA Europe, they receive a helping hand to build a good future, says Sreng. “It is wonderful to see how the young children flourish in our pre-primary programs. With preparatory kindergarten classes, they get a flying start in elementary school.” As part of SCCO’s youth projects, there are coaching and scholarships for vocational training. <\/p> \n \n

“Characteristic of DARA Europe’s approach is that we always find a solution together,” adds Sreng. “We see the problems of the people we help as the starting point for the search for a joint solution. We really look at what an individual needs, and we support each person to become more independent and resilient.” <\/p> \n \n

A lot has changed – for the better – in Andong over the past decade, Sreng observes. “There is less poverty, and more and more families are finding better housing. We are now ready for the next step: to enthuse even more families to take advantage of SCCO’s programs, activities and facilities. In this way, we will soon give even more children even more opportunities for a bright future.” <\/p> \n \n
